This information is from Jerry Brock who was both a racer and part of the track staff in the early days from 1963 to 1966. He was the starter during part of that time. Here is what he recalls about the car in this photo: "That was the Jr. Dragster that belonged to Vern Plett who lived up by Newton. He also worked at the track, and usually set up the timing lights. He had a beautiful black 40 Ford Coupe with a small block Chevy, for the street only, he didn't race it. He was really good friends with the Miles and Nelsons. Vern drove the dragster a couple of times, then turned it over to a reddish-blond curly haired kid, who was deaf. He would stage at about 8000 rpm, because he couldn't hear it, so it didn't bother him. It was scary standing between him and another car at the starting line."
